Key Traits Of An Entrepreneur

What Traits Of An Entrepreneur Must You Emulate?

I was listening last night to a webinar and the presenter was chatting about the traits of an entrepreneur. Among the initial ones that he came up with was that you just had to be a little crazy. This is one that I will usually agree with. To have the will to be a true entrepreneur, you should be willing to accept a certain level of risk plus do what ever it takes to succeed.

You also have to think about the world in a positive way, regardless of how hard things get and sometimes you have to not know when to give up. That is why I believe he feels like you must be a little bit crazy. This is true because many people have a certain tolerance point for pain, after which they’re ready to give up. To be an entrepreneur, you should have such strong focus on the reward that it blocks out all other feelings. Including thoughts of doubt, failure and frustration.

So, while I might utilize a different word. I’d accept his remark that you have to become a little crazy to want to be an entrepreneur.

To Thrive Requires More Then Just Drive Steph Korey

While drive is a fantastic quality, it has to be coupled with focus and a motivation to learn and be trained. Unless you’re the one person on the planet that knows everything about everything, there is a lot to learn to achieve success in any business. A true attribute of an entrepreneur is accepting that there are many smart people around with a lot to offer. To be a true student of success, someone has to spend part of each day trying to learn something new.

I’m not sure who coined the phrase, but I have heard it again and again through out my adult life, “leaders are readers”. Reading includes all the choices available, which may be webinar watchers and MP3 listeners as well. But learning from those who have come before you and have made every one of the errors you want to avoid is an important attribute of an entrepreneur.

Working On Your Business Instead Of In It

If you haven’t read the Emyth Revisited, I strongly recommend you do that. It’s one of the most important qualities you will pick up as an entrepreneur. It appears that most entrepreneurs tend to want to complete everything themselves. I can confirm that, as a serial entrepreneur, I always think I can do things best. My view and that view generally is often a recipe for failure.

To be a master of your companies destiny, you will need to understand your business from the top down and know how to develop tools in order that other people can focus on the everyday operations. This allows you to drive the course and strategy of your business. Put differently, it’s a lot more fun to drive your car then repair a flat.
